By Member of the Month
We are happy to announce that Kyle from our East Vancouver location is our Member of the Month for April 2019. His story of lifestyle change is a great example.
Since my father passed away a few years back, my overall health was, for lack of a better term, in turmoil. My lowest point was on Mother’s Day 2018. While playing with my niece, I picked her up from a crouching position and all of a sudden, injured my Achilles tendon. I saw a chiropractor and sadly, the injury took months to heal. Then in July 2018 I decided, with the suggestion of my family doctor, to come in and try LIVE WELL Exercise Clinic East Van - and it has been the best decision I’ve made so far.
With LIVE WELL’s help, I have gotten back to being active and having a decent regular exercise routine. The regular weekly health lessons and information helped me be cautious and conscious of my food intake. Since joining, my breathing has become easier and I am enjoying being more active.
The challenge for me has been making lifestyle changes in my day-to-day life when I’m not at LIVE WELL, after my workout is done. Its not an easy road to trek but the benefits are worth it.
My previous habits were not easy to overcome. It helped to always keep in mind the health-coaching lessons members receive at LIVE WELL. My goals have been to try to be conscious with what I consume and to try to be active whenever possible.
Since joining LIVE WELL, my attitude changed for the better; both physically and emotionally. Movements are so much better and easier than when I started; plus, I can think clearly now.
I enjoy my exercise routines at LIVE WELL and have really enjoyed the various special days: Circuit, Flexibility Days, Relaxation Days and yes, also Dance Days. Just being able to get back to an active lifestyle makes me LOVE ALL OF THEM!
I have learned that exercise is the key to a healthy life, combined with proper eating and diet. This will lead to better and greater things moving forward.
I’m a private person, so have had to step outside my comfort zone. But I’m at a point now that I’m getting to know some of the other members and Joy Masters. Hopefully, it will help in achieving the goals I’ve set for myself.
My current health goals are to be able to RUN without pain in my right ankle and able to play sports (particularly basketball, volleyball and badminton) without hesitation of consequences or worrying about getting hurt in the process. I am also trying to work on being patient and consistent. Always remember that its a marathon and that Rome was not built in a day. It takes time, so KEEP WORKING ON IT!
Right now, in life, I am doing and feeling GOOD, and it is the first time in the longest time that I can definitively say that.
My proudest accomplishment is when I lost more than 10 lbs. in 3 months and also that I can now run after my bus without losing my breath!
As I’ve previously mentioned I WILL slowly get there. I just have to be consistent and patient. In the meantime, I will continue to enjoy the journey I have started and keep looking forward to the benefits I will reap.
My advice to others trying to work on health and fitness goals is to keep it up, have a plan and stick to it. Always keep in mind why you are doing this or for whom. **
We are grateful to Kyle for sharing his story. Kyle, your willingness to up your activity level outside the clinic and become more a more conscious eater is inspiring!
