Here is a little background about Brian and Amanda Budd and Grayden and Sherry Biffart, the new owners of LIVE WELL Exercise Clinic Coquitlam:
BRIAN: I found out about LIVE WELL through my parents. My Mom struggled with heart disease, obesity and diabetes. I watched my her go from a caring, vibrant, athletic fun-loving person to a very sick individual. I have also watched my Dad experience a heart attack, 5 stents and open-heart surgery. I have a strong bond and love for my parents. and my Dad led me to LIVE WELL as after my mom passed away, his health was diminishing. I sought out ways for him to exercise however with his heart condition he was barely able to talk on the phone, let alone exercise. Then I found LIVE WELL and I encouraged my Dad to check it out. Although resistant at first, he went and is now a member.
Although my Mom is no longer alive, I often wonder if LIVE WELL could have changed her life. Now by opening a LIVE WELL location, I have the opportunity to come alongside others to battle and conquer these life-threatening diseases.
I have been an entrepreneur most of my life, and LIVE WELL is the first business venture that gives me the opportunity to be an agent of change. My personal mantra is “take your eyes off yourself and put them on others.”
GRAYDEN: I have always had a passion for stories. People tell the most interesting ones when you take the time to listen. And so about seven years ago I met Sara Hodson who was opening a clinic downstairs in my office building in White Rock (the original LIVE WELL Exercise Clinic). At the time, I was building my insurance practice and found her passion for what she was doing contagious. I will never forget when she introduced herself at an open house for tenants, she had a vision and was driven to help people.
Over the next few years I witnessed a stream of people coming into the building wanting to change their habits and lives doing just that. Every time I would ask I received the same answer: “this place has changed my life!” Some of these LIVE WELL members were my clients.
So, after 25 years of building a health insurance practice, and desiring to move from a reactive model to a hands-on approach, it was clear. Through my own due diligence process I came to realize this is what I have been spending my first career preparing for. I have a deep desire to help people and this gives me the vehicle to do that while being involved in health and fitness, two things that I am passionate about. When I read members’ WIN bubbles on the walls of clinics, I come back to my love of stories. There have been so many told by LIVE WELL members and so many more to come and I am excited to be a part of that narrative!
BRIAN: My wife of 23 years, Amanda and I LIVE WELL by skiing, working out at least four days a week and walking with our entire family. We have been blessed with three amazing children. We also LIVE WELL by making daily healthy eating choices. Although this can be really hard it is worth the effort.
GRAYDEN: Currently my approach to fitness has evolved due to my own personal health issues with a chronic lower back injury. I swim, weigh-lift and run on a zero-impact trainer. In addition, I do some light yoga with basic mat pilates to help keep my core strong. My wife Sherry and I love to walk down by the beach and hike when we have the opportunity.
BRIAN: Amanda and I Find the Joy by spending time and keeping up with our teenage kids. As a family we love hanging out together, whether it be in front of a movie, hitting the slopes or paddle-boarding at our favourite vacation spot. Joy is defined as “gladness, not based on circumstance.” Therefore even when things are not always easy, we are able to leverage the inner faith we have. We have made a decision to always choose JOY.
I have also always had a passion for helping people. I started this passion by being a lifeguard, then a ski patrol volunteer and finally a volunteer fire fighter. I also have a strong passion for Harley Davidson’s, and so I love to hit the road and take in the sights from a motorcycle.
One fun fact about me is that I dressed up as Santa Claus in Richmond Centre and proposed to my amazing wife while she thought she was getting her picture with Santa!
GRAYDEN: I love to RV in our 5th wheel trailer! While I enjoy warm, exotic locations for vacations, my first choice would be heading down the road. It is about being free and a love of meeting people and hearing their stories. Same goes for my love of motorcycles. I have always been a rider since I was 8-years-old. If it has a motor I love it and the more power, the better!
